Muscat: From breakfast mornings, saloon and restaurant discounts, to women’s gatherings, special recognitions and office celebrations, several activities were held to mark the Omani Women’s Day on October 17.
A special women’s gathering was organised at the new Whispers of Serenity Clinic in Al Azaiba, where Her Highness Sayyida Basma Al Said and her team at the clinic delivered special talks about women, their moods and lifestyle and spoke about balancing work and family.
Several women from the Royal family, wives of ministers and ambassadors in the country attended the occasion to rejoice the spirit of being a woman.
Maitha Al Mahrouqi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Tourism was a special guest at the event, who delivered an emotionally moving talk about her life and career.

“The idea of this event was really to mark three special occasions together—Omani Women’s Day, Mental Health Day and our sixth anniversary. I think women are sometimes too hard on themselves, trying to prove themselves, which they don’t need to, and therefore this affects their mental stability, they get anxious and stressed out because they place a big load on themselves. “I think if a woman is able to balance her life well in terms of moderation, she will be well mentally, and so will she be able to help others out.”
Breakfast Morning
A special Omani breakfast morning and cooking demonstration was organised with 70 women in the country at the popular Kargeen restaurant, where women were treated to a traditional Omani breakfast, including popular delicacies, such as luqaimat, falafel, umm ali, rakhal, and several other items.
There was also a cooking demonstration held after the breakfast, where women took part in making some of these items.
ROHM Event
Earlier, the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) also marked Omani Women’s Day on October 6, which was dedicated to the women of Oman, and featured music by the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra’s (ROSO) Ladies Chamber Ensemble and the Palestinian Folklore Group, with a special guest appearance by Mohammed Assaf. More events were held across the country, including special celebrations being held in offices, saloons and restaurants offering special discounts to mark the momentous day. Ever since His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said ascended the throne in 1970, he has empowered women with rights and opportunities equal to men and this has fuelled female contributions to the country in a phenomenal way.
He has also made sure that women are kept actively involved in the functioning of the nation and declared October 17 as the Omani Women’s Day, an occasion which is annually observed with large events, glittering award ceremonies, dining and shopping discounts and offers exclusive for women, and much more.
