#OmanPride: Hotels in Oman join hands to help the underprivileged

Muscat: Six of Muscat’s leading hotels have joined hands to help underprivileged communities on World Food Day, annually celebrated on October 16.
Volunteers from six hotels took part in a fun challenge race at the LuLu Hypermarket in Darsait on Tuesday to collect as many dry goods as possible and distribute them among the local communities. Teams from the Crowne Plaza, the Shangri-La’s Barr al Jissah Resort and Spa, InterContinental Muscat, Holiday Inn Muscat, Sheraton Oman and the Al Bustan Palace—a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, joined hands for the first time to organise the large-scale hotel charity event in Muscat.

The teams competed in the 10-minute race through the hypermarket and collected items from a shopping list.
To finance the project, a total of OMR2,960 was collected by the hotels through different fund-raising initiatives run by each property in the past few weeks, which were later divided among each team before the race.
On Thursday, the hotel teams will organise food drives across the city and distribute food bags among disadvantaged communities, developing deeper bonds with their neighbourhoods. Dar Al Atta’a and Al Rahma Charity will support the distribution through their networks.
“All hotels have their own Corporate Social Responsibility programmes in place, but this project is really unique in that it brings us all together for a common cause. This initiative reflects our common ground and values as responsible businesses. When it comes to supporting our communities in Muscat, we are all committed, together” said Katrin Herz, general manager at the Al Bustan Palace—a Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
The hotel teams expressed their appreciation for the Lulu Hypermarket officials, for their contribution to the food race and the purchase of supplies.
World Food Day is annually held to mark the founding of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945. In 2016, the theme is “Climate is Changing. Food and Agriculture Must Too.”
