Asian woman alleges sexual assault,12 expats arrested in Oman

Muscat: An Asian woman allegedly sexually abused and assaulted by her manager was found by police lying by a traffic signal in Muscat.
The woman, now recovering in hospital, told police she had been sexually and physically assaulted, a reliable source in the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said.
“During the investigation, she revealed that she was sexually abused by the hotel manager who also kept her in illegal confinement. Another female staffer of the hotel, accompanied by some female employees, also assaulted her,” the source in the ROP said the woman claimed.
He said the woman was found near a traffic signal in Ruwi.
“She was first taken to the Khoula hospital on October 6 in an ambulance, and then shifted to the ROP hospital,” the source added.
Following an investigation by the police, a number of expats were arrested.
“The manager, who is an Asian national, and another 12 people, also of Asian origin, were arrested. These included Indian and Bangladeshi women workers of the hotel and an official.”
“The case was referred to the Public Prosecutor since it seemed that a crime related to human trafficking had also been committed,” said the ROP source.
A number of arrested employees claimed they were merely trying to stop the victim from being beaten up.
