Oman technology: WhatsApp adds tagging option in group chats

Muscat: WhatsApp has added the ability for users in group chats to tag other participants, so they receive a notification even if they’ve muted the conversation.
The feature works on Android and iOS, but not on the desktop app.
However, no official notification about the new feature has been uploaded on its website or on its social networking accounts.
To tag someone, the user has to simply enter the ‘@’ symbol, followed by their name; which can be chosen from the menu that pops up.
The user can tag multiple contacts in a single message. It also works with contacts that the user haven’t saved to his address book, but are part of the same group chat.
WhatsApp previously added a feature that allowed the user to quote messages in group chats to make it clear what you’re responding to.
It also expanded group sizes from 100 to 256 participants.
On August 25, WhatsApp updated its terms and privacy policy for the first time in four years, as part of their plans to test ways for people to communicate with businesses in the months ahead.
They rolled out new features, like end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp Calling, and messaging tools like WhatsApp for web and desktop.
