Door-to-door mail for Al Mouj residents in Oman

Muscat: For the first time in Oman, mail will be delivered to the doorstep of the residents of Al Mouj, a community of over 4,000 people. In collaboration with the Oman Post Company, Al Mouj Muscat will be the first destination in Oman to offer daily door-to-door postal delivery services, adding to its coveted lifestyle. The service will include delivery of both parcels and letters, and will start from September this year at the waterfront development’s apartments, later extending to villas and townhouses. Commenting on the new mail service, Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, acting chief executive officer (CEO) of Al Mouj Muscat said, “In partnership with Oman Post, Al Mouj Muscat is delighted to be the first development in Oman to be able to offer this unprecedented service to our residents.” “This is yet another customer focused concept, which will be delivered as part of our ongoing commitment to providing new standards of living, leisure and entertainment to residents, visitors and tourists in Oman.” According to Abdul Malik Al Balushi, CEO of Oman Post, the introduction of the convenience driven service is timely, given the increasing volume of mail that is being generated through the growth of e-commerce. “We look forward to collaborating with Al Mouj Muscat on this first-of-its kind initiative, and delivering an outstanding direct-to-the-door service to this dynamic community.” However, most other residents of Oman will still have to follow the traditional method of driving to the post boxes to get their mail. Al Mouj Muscat is Oman’s flagship integrated tourism complex with a package that includes social, residential, retail and entertainment hubs for locals and tourists. It is currently home to more than 4,000 people belonging to 70 nationalities. Meanwhile, pursuant to the Postal Services Regulatory Law No. 71/2012, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) held a joint consultation with key stakeholders to review the general policy and certain postal regulatory legislations that were drafted by specialised international consulting firms. The meeting focused on discussing the principles and outcomes of the studies prepared by the consultant under the supervision of officials from the ministry and TRA. The key principles and results of the general policy aim at furthering the role of postal services in socio-economic development through the gradual liberalisation of the postal market. This will reduce routine and bureaucracy in supervision and regulation, the promotion of local and foreign investment and encourage operators to improve postal services by using telecommunication and technology on a wider scale so that they become capable of providing hybrid e-commerce services within the next five years in line with the plans and trends of the government. The meeting took place at the TRA building in Airport Heights. Representatives from the concerned government entities, postal services providers and some beneficiaries of postal services were present at the meeting.
