Muscat: A three-dimensional (3-D) image of the Al Alam Palace will emerge from the new Omani rial note with the help of a mobile application developed by a young app developer.
The augmented reality app has become popular among social media users in Oman.
The app allows users to point their smartphone cameras at the new purple-coloured one rial note and see a virtual miniature of the famous landmark of Al Alam Palace with a fireworks display in the background.
When one flips to the backside of the banknote, one can see two golden butterflies flying around it.
The hype around the app has been “amazing,” according to Aisha Rashid, the 23-year-old app designer.
Asked if she plans to go commercial with her artwork, Rashid said the app is a gift to the public to have fun with.
“We had fun making it, let everyone have fun using it!” she added.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Rashid said the game will not be officially launched anytime soon as “it was made for fun only.”
However, the computer graphics artist explained that some similar serious projects of hers will be available officially on the android market and app store.
“We didn’t expect the hype! Everyone loves it,” she concluded.
