Muscat: The Consumer Protection Administration in Barka managed to spot one of the companies that suppplied rotten rice and stored it in unhygienic conditions that do not meet the standard requirements.
The officers spotted 22 tonnes of rice and a number of tools and machines used in rice packing.
They also spotted expatriates who were packing spoiled rice in new bags with new production and expiry dates. They used to store the rice bags in warehouses that do not meet health requirements and then sold to restaurants that prepare banquets.
Ahmed bin Saleh Al Zadjali, Director of Consumer Protection Administration in Barka said the Public Authority for Consumer Protection seized the quantities from different governorates and wilayats and sent samples to the lab to ensure their safety .
