300 PSM student contest Times quiz

Muscat: Preliminary rounds of the Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) came to an end at Pakistan School Muscat on Sunday.
Some 300 students in two categories – Junior and Senior – participated in the final qualifier, seeking to be promoted to the next round of the Times inter school quiz.
Students rose to the challenge, answering the right mix of audio, visual and direct questions from quiz master Lloyd Saldanha.
The qualifier was easy for Hunzala Shahid and his teammate Taha Zaheer, who participated in the junior category for the second time.
“Questions were comparatively easier than last year, and I think our team will easily qualify to the next round,” Shahid said.
According to Ataullah Niazi, Senior Principal of Pakistan Schools in Oman, Times of Oman’s quiz is an important event for students.
“Times of Oman provide the perfect exposure for students, and this will help them to update their knowledge in all aspects,” he said.
“It is not easy to qualify to the next round. Participants should have a good knowledge of current affairs, and also should have good observations about the entire world,” he added.
“This makes Times of Oman’s interschool quiz special, and this is a rich learning experience for our children,” he added.
According to Niazi, quizzes create inquisitive minds, and Times of Oman is helping students to become more inquisitive.
“TOOISQC also helps schools to take students from their normal curricular activities and venture into a more knowledgeable area,” he said.
He further said that students are very enthusiastic about the TOOISQC and each year many students choose to compete.
In the senior category, participants noted that questions were challenging.
“Questions were not that tough, but challenging, even though we are confident that we can easily move into the Mega prelims,” said Asjad and Farhan, class 9 students.
Students grew louder with joy when the quiz master announced answers to the questions.
According to the quizmaster, students at Pakistan School Muscat deserve full credit for their efforts.
“They were a very enthusiastic crowd and made the entire preliminary round completely enjoyable for me,” Lloyd Saldanha said.
Mega prelims will be held on 19th of April at the Indian School Ghubra.
Teams from 20 schools are participating in the quiz contest, while the top 12 schools will clash in the final on April 21 at City Amphitheatre.
The winning school in the Times of Oman interschool quiz will lift the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Rolling Trophy for their school.
