Libyan CDA reaches consensus on new constitution at conclusion of meeting in Oman

Salalah: Consultative meeting of the Libyan Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) was concluded on Wednesday evening in Salalah by reaching a consensus on the new Libyan Constitution, which is the culmination of extensive UN-sponsored consultations with the support of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Sultanate hosted the deliberations of consultative meeting of the Libyan CDA, which lasted over three weeks under the aegis of the United Nations (UN) with the aim of approximating viewpoints to reach a final consensus draft constitution that meets ambitions and aspirations of all Libyans.
Dr. Qasem bin Mohammed Al Salhi, Sultanate’s ambassador to Libya delivered a speech expressing the joy for declaring the draft Libyan constitution from Oman.
He added that the consensus reached during the dialogue sessions is a model for how to solve differences among brothers.
Dr. Al Jilani Abdul Salam al-Jamal, Acting Chairman of the Libyan Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) delivered a speech thanking the Sultanate for hosting the meetings and providing the conducive milieu for dialogue and consultations.
He added that the consensus reached was done with free will without any pressures.
Dr. Mohammed Al Ghannam, Constitution Advisor at United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) delivered a speech on behalf of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of Mission, UNSMIL, Martin Kobler during which he thanked the Sultanate for the support it has provided and for its endeavors to integrate agreement and understanding, as well as to provide every possible mean for success.
He hailed the efforts made by members of the Libyan Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) to come out with a constitution that meets the higher interests of the Libyans.
