MUSCAT: Salalah heavyweights Dhofar Club are a match away from regaining glory as they reached the final of the prestigious His Majesty’s Cup Football Championship on Sunday night.
Coached by the legendary Oman footballer Younis Aman, the record ten-time champions staved off a spirited challenge from Bahla 1-0 in the second-leg of the 2024 HM’s Cup semi-final at the Al Saada Sports Stadium. The first-leg had ended in a goalless draw at the Nizwa Sports Complex on
February 28 and the only goal on Sunday was enough to take the hosts into the final.
The all-important goal was struck by Oman international Motaz Saleh, who converted a penalty in the 80th minute of the game.
The win helped Dhofar book a spot in the final for the 17th time and will face the winner of the
second semi-final between another Salalah giant, Al Nasr, and defending champions Al Nahda.
Fanja with nine titles is the second best club in the competition while Al Nasr and Ahli-Sidab have five crowns each.
The second-leg of the other semi-final between Al Nasr and Al Nahda will be held at the same venue on Monday night at 10 pm. The teams are locked in a 1-1 stalemate after the first-leg in Buraimi last month.
