Muscat: More than 100 people were rescued by the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) as heavy rains lashed the Sultanate of Oman over the last couple of days, throwing normal life out of gear.
Flash floods were reported in some parts of the country as the depression brought in rains and thunderstorms across Oman.
The search and rescue teams dealt with 108 cases and rescued 109 persons from different areas of Oman till Sunday morning.
Officials said the people were rescued as they were stranded in wadis and low lying areas. “Altogether, 37 people were rescued from the overflowing wadis,” an official statement said.
In addition, 25 accidents were reported because of the rain. Traffic restoration work on some stretches of roads has been delayed due to the rising flood waters.
12 cases of fires were also reported from various parts of Oman, according to the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority.
The search and rescue teams also dealt with 27 medical cases till Sunday morning.
The Wilayat Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate received the highest amount of rainfall during the last three days which was 110 mm.
According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Wilayat of Ibri in Al Dhahirah Governorate received 110 mm of rains, followed by the Wilayat of Khasab in Musandam Governorate with 90 mm and the Wilayats of Sinaw in North Al Sharqiyah and Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 80 mm each.
Meanwhile, the weather condition is expected to weaken on Monday, March 11, 2024, the Oman Meteorology said.
However, isolated rain is expected over the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and along the coasts of Dhofar on Monday.
