Muscat: In a significant move to promote awareness about traffic safety, rules, and regulations, the Royal Oman Police, represented by the Directorate General of Traffic, proudly announces the launch of two booklets - the Oman Highway Code for Heavy Vehicles and Light Vehicles. It is available in both Arabic and English editions.
These handbooks was launched at Oman Mall, during GCC Traffic Week on 3 March 2024 by Engineer Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The Oman Highway Code serves as a comprehensive guide to traffic safety, aiming to equip readers in general and the drivers and users of the roads in particular, with essential knowledge and skills for responsible navigation on roads. At a time when the pace of life is accelerating, emphasising the importance of road safety becomes paramount.
These handbooks come at a crucial juncture, addressing the challenges of increasingly busy roads and the growing distractions from modern technology. Whether you are a seasoned driver, a professional driver, a new road user, or simply someone looking to refresh their understanding of traffic rules, these handbooks are meticulously crafted to cater to your needs.
The Oman Highway Code for Light Vehicles provides valuable information on obtaining driving licences, important safety practices, emergency procedures, road signs, and a comprehensive list of traffic violations with their consequences.
The handbook is designed to benefit all drivers, offering guidance on the dos and don’ts of the road.
The Heavy Vehicle Handbook specifically targets professional drivers and fleet managers, offering insights to navigate roadways with heightened awareness and expertise.
These handbooks, available for free download, transcend being mere pages of information; they represent a collective effort to transform our approach to road safety. Launched during Traffic Week 2024 at Mall of Oman, the PDF versions in both Arabic and English will be accessible for free download on the ROP website.
The initiative, undertaken in the public interest, is made possible with the support of corporate entities that recognise the significance of road safety.
Commenting on the launch of these two booklets, Brigadier General/Engineer Ali bin Sulayem Al-Falahi, Director General of Traffic, said: “The launch of the two booklets of Oman Highway Code for Light and Heavy vehicles, stands as a testament to Oman’s dedication to road safety awareness. These comprehensive guides serve as invaluable resources, spreading knowledge about safe driving practices, the laws governing road safety, vehicle care, road signs, and the vital role that technology plays in ensuring our well-being on the road. By providing this essential information, Oman paves the way for its citizens to make informed decisions and embrace the principles of road safety.”
For her part, Engineer Fatima bint Abdullah Al-Riyamiya, Assistant Director of Traffic Engineering at Directorate General of Traffic, technical advisor for issuing the two booklets stated: “These two booklets are an important qualitative addition to the ongoing efforts of Royal Oman Police In ensuring traffic safety for all road users and reducing traffic accidents, every driver in the Sultanate of Oman can benefit from the important information presented in the two books, hoping to adhere to it for the safety of everyone.”
