Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will be affected by an air depression from Monday, March 4, until Wednesday, March 6 followed by another one expected to begin on Friday March 8, 2024, said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
During last week, several wilayats of the Sultanate received moderate to heavy rainfall, with the highest levels reaching 134 mm in the wilayat of Barka. This also led to the death of two children who drowned in Al-Raiba area in wilayat Ibri. Several road closures were also announced, including the closure of the Izki-Sinaw road.
For this week's weather forecast, the Civil Aviation Authority said in a report: “Sultanate of Oman will be affected by air depression starting from Monday, March 4, until Wednesday, March 6. Clouds are expected to form and flow over the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, and Al Buraimi, with scattered rains of varying intensity that may lead to the flow of reefs and valleys. The weather conditions are expected to extend to Al Hajar mountains and the coast of the Sea of Oman with opportunities of scattered rains."
Forward forecasts also indicate that the atmosphere of the Sultanate of Oman may be affected by another weather condition, starting from Friday, March 8, until the beginning of next week. Specialists at the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards are following the expected weather condition and its developments.
The Civil Aviation Authority said in a report: “Clouds are expected to flow and form over most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with the chance of isolated rainfall on Monday.“
Rainfall is expected to be variable in intensity and thunderstorms (10-50 mm) are anticipated on Tuesday, accompanied by active downdraft winds and hail in the Al-Musandam Governorate, extending to cover the rest of the governorates.
"There is a possibility of the sea waves height increasing from moderate to rough (2-3 meters) on the western coasts of the Musandam Governorate and the coasts of the Arabian Sea, with the blowing of southeast winds (15-25 knots) in most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, leading to the rise of dust and dirt in desert and exposed areas."
"Clouds advection and formation from Monday evening March 4 with the possibility of isolated rainfall (5-20 mm). Clouds advection will continue on Tuesday with the chance of variable- intensity rainfall (10-50 mm) occasionally thundershowers leading to the flow of wadies, the rains will be associated with fresh downdraft with speed of (15 to 35 kt)."
