Muscat: As part of its efforts to expand scholarly specialisations at various levels, the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Council on Wednesday approved a number of new academic programmes.
The Council approved the programmes during its second meeting for academic year 2023/2024, chaired by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. The meeting was attended by HH Sayyid Fahad Al Julanda Al Said, SQU Vice-Chancellor.
The Council took note of the latest developments in the university’s march and the progress made in implementing decisions and recommendations it issued over the course of the academic year.
The Council approved a number of academic programmes at the College of Education, including the PhD in Educational Psychology and the PhD in educational assessment programmes.
The specialisations approved were the first two doctoral programmes of their kind in the Sultanate of Oman. They aim to provide highly qualified human resources to lend support to educational institutions and contribute to upgrading academic research.
The Council also approved the MSc programme in clinical physiology (specialization in Cardiovascular and Neurology) at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. The programme targets health science graduates and technicians working in physiological diagnostic units who wish to further enhance their professional skills.
The programme is designed to meet the growing demand for such a specialty in the public and private health sectors.
The Council expressed its commitment to realize the university’s strategic plan and achieve its goals by following up performance indicators set for the current academic year. -ONA
