Efforts to digitise database of Oman's archaeological sites continue

Muscat: The Japanese mission has begun its supplementary season for the digital heritage inventory project as part of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism's (MoHT) efforts in documenting archaeological sites in the Sultanate of Oman.

Ministry of Heritage and Tourism said: “In continuation of the Ministry’s efforts in documenting archaeological sites and establishing a database of the same, the Japanese mission began its supplementary season for the digital heritage inventory project with the participation of the Department of Archaeological Sites in Bat, Al-Khutm, and Al-Ain in the Wilayat of Ibri.

In addition, the Department of Heritage and Tourism in North Al Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the Sohar Fort Museum Department, organised a lecture on the results of surveys and excavations for the first season of the archaeological mission in Sohar Fort and the surrounding area. Professor Derek Kennett from the American University of Chicago reviewed the most important results and discoveries of the season. The lecture was accompanied by a mini exhibition of the most important finds.
