Oman ministry issues clarification regarding fuel quality in some governorates

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), has issued a statement about the quality of fuel 91 in some governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion expressed its great interest in following up on the issue of the quality of the fuel 91 in some governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, where a joint meeting was held with several parties, including the Consumer Protection Authority, OQ Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company, and fuel marketing companies.

OQ confirmed that it bears full responsibility for the quality of fuel and its distribution to all local fuel marketing companies. It follows up complaints received through companies and is committed to disclosing to all local beneficiaries the quality of fuel 91 and the causes of damage to citizens’ vehicles and boats during the period of receiving complaints, as well as the results of laboratory tests.

In this regard, the Ministry stresses the importance of OQ’s commitment to implementing the approved standard specification for unleaded gasoline vehicle fuel, and providing the Ministry, represented by the Directorate General of Standards and Metrology, with a certificate of conformity for each product.

The mechanism agreed upon by the relevant authorities to address complaints related to fuel quality from consumers included the following:

1- Fuel marketing companies receive complaints through their call and customer service centers.

2-Within two working days from the date of receiving the complaint, the fuel marketing companies will provide OQ with full details in the event that the complaint is confirmed, such as the name of the station, the region, the type of fuel, and the production batch “shipment” number.

3- OQ tracks the quality of the product from the main distribution points (tanks), reviews certificates of conformity and re-examines the reference sample in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce , Industry and Investment Promotion and the Consumer Protection Authority.

4-In the event of non-compliance with specifications, a technical work team is formed to verify and take the necessary measures.
