Bahla: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, celebrated on 18 February the Annual Day of Globally Influential Omani Personalities listed in the Unesco, which falls on 10 February every year.
The celebration was held at Jibreen Fort in the Wilayat of Bahla, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate under the patronage of Ibrahim bin Said Al Kharoussi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage.
The celebration was organised in cooperation with the government departments and the private sector establishments concerned with preservation of the Omani cultural heritage.
The celebration aimed to showcase the globally influential Omani personalities at the local and international level.
It aimed to showcase the Jibreen Fort which is listed in the Unesco programme for the anniversary celebrations of the key historic events and the globally influential personalities.
It also aimed to showcase the architecture of the fort and engineering construction method and its impact in the field of science and education as many students from the Arab countries attended lessons in the various fields of science.
Dr. Mahmoud bin Abdullah Al Abri, Assistant Secretary of Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, said that in the fields of heritage and culture, Oman had experienced its distinct presence in the international arena, in general and at the Unesco in particular. Said bin Salim Al Jadidi from the Heritage and Tourism Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate delivered a working paper on the stages of maintenance and renovation of Jibreen Fort .
During the celebration, students of Imam Bilarab bin Sultan Basic Education School delivered an operetta titled “Oman; glory and civilisation”.
It is worth mentioning that Oman has so far managed to enlist seven Omani personalities and one event in the Unesco programme for the 50th or 100th anniversary of the key historic events and the globally influential personalities.
