Visit this heritage lodge in Wakan during your next visit to South Al Batinah

Muscat: The Sama Wakan Lodge, in the village of Wakan in the Wilayat of Nakhal in the South Al Batinah Governorate, is one of the heritage houses in the Governorate that the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism supervises. 

It is distinguished by its view of the natural landscape of the village, which is famous for its farms and the seasonal fruits it contains, in addition to its moderate weather. Asaad bin Mohammad Al Maamari, owner of the Wakan Lodge, said that the lodge is closely linked to the village as one of its components and forms part of its architectural style and traditional heritage in a harmonious combination that expresses the traditional aspect of the Omani village.

He added that when the lodge was opened, it was taken into account that it fulfilled the requirements regulating such facilities by adapting it to the simple traditional Omani house, including the features that provide comfort, as is the case in the rest of the Omani houses, it takes on the character of traditional Omani construction. It was taken into account as much as possible that the materials used in construction are components of the Omani environment.

Al Maamari explained that the lodge consists of 13 rooms and a restaurant, where some meals from traditional Omani cuisine have recently been introduced to add a kind of Omani flavour to the menu. Pointing out that the number of visitors to the lodge during the past year, 2023, amounted to more than 3,000 visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

He stated that the Sama Wakan Lodge organises several recreational activities and events for visitors to the lodge, such as conducting tours inside the village and its farms to get to know the village closely and organising a footwalk in the village’s highlands.
