Muscat: Omantel, the leading provider of integrated telecommunication services in the Sultanate of Oman, has welcomed the fourth batch of college and university students under its successful Generation Z programme, which has been designed to equip the youth with skills in future technologies to prepare them for the labour market.
The new batch including 29 trainees from various universities and colleges in Oman and abroad, will undergo extensive training in digital technology and telecommunications during the year-long programme.
Omantel launched the inaugural edition of the Generation Z training program in 2020 to provide fresh graduates with a headstart to their careers and lay the pathway to be leaders capable of participating in building the future. The programme also provides participants with the opportunity to get acquainted with the company's operations through several courses, participation in projects, mentorship and mentoring by experts.
Since its launch, 131 participants have been trained in different fields, including digital technology and artificial intelligence, in line with Oman Vision 2040. Though designed to prepare graduates to compete in the wider job market in the Sultanate of Oman, Omantel has given 121 graduates – more than 90% of the trainees - permanent jobs in its various sectors and departments.
In the one-of-a-kind training programme, participants are assigned practical tasks by mentors and supervisors to help them handle responsibilities at the workplace. The programme allows participants to perform tasks handled by real employees, such as scable design and reviewing the coordinates of the 4G and 5G network towers, along with real-time problem-solving opportunities.
The participants also get to work in various departments, such as customer service, project management, network management, finance and other disciplines at Omantel, helping them improve communication and soft and constructive thinking skills.
The Generation Z programme trainees can connect with other members from different departments and learn from each other while working on projects. In addition, they can benefit from the connections they make through the programme which will ultimately help them in their career progression, even after employment or whenever they need help.
