Muscat: An investment opportunity has been floated for private sector investors to set up treated water projects in the Al Nahda area in the Wilayat of Al Amerat, Muscat Governorate, within a total area of about 500 fedans (2.1 million square metres).

The projects stem from an initiative espoused by the National Employment Programme (NEP) in cooperation with a number of government departments and private sector establishments.

The NEP initiative seeks to consolidate partnerships with the private sector and augment the volume of basic agricultural commodities. It also promotes self-sufficiency and supports the food security system.

The project seeks to exploit agricultural land to use the tertiary treated water produced from the wastewater treatment plant in Al-Amerat, to develop and encourage agricultural activities and sustainable agriculture. It also aims to further exploit treated water, enhance innovation and technology in the agricultural sector, and create more job opportunities.

The private institutions will also participate in this investment opportunity and will be presented with a vision of the ideal model for designing, managing, implementing, operating and marketing the project for exploiting treated water in agricultural production taking into account the social, environmental, educational and economic aspects and developing wildlife on the site.
