Muscat: The French Government, represented by the French Ministry of Culture, bestowed the honour upon Jamal bin Hassan Al-Moosawi, the Secretary-General of the National Museum, presenting him with the “Order of Arts and Literature” (Knight) as a recognition of his efforts in promoting bilateral relations in the cultural and museum fields between the Sultanate of Oman and the French Republic.
The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the French Embassy in Muscat.
Veronique Ollivier, the Ambassador of the French Republic accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, presented the medal on behalf of Rima Abdul Malik, the esteemed French Minister of Culture.
The “Order of Arts and Literature” (Knight) is one of the highest decorations in the French Republic, consisting of three ranks: Knight, Officer, and Commander. The award is given in recognition of decision-makers, creators, and distinguished figures in literature and art for their contributions to promoting arts and literature in the French Republic or for promoting French culture worldwide.
It is worth noting that the National Museum has organised various exhibitions and events in collaboration with several cultural and museum institutions in the French Republic.
Notably, the exhibition “Fragrant Journeys” took place on October 17, 2022, at Bait Greiza, administratively affiliated to the National Museum, in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon, France, and the French Embassy in Oman.
The Museum also hosted a panel discussion on “Perfume Industry: Exploring New Perspectives” on November 7, 2022, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Oman and the Omani-French Friendship Association, as part of the accompanying events for the “Fragrant Journeys” exhibition.
Additionally, on January 17, 2023, the National Museum hosted the conference “Oman Through the Eyes of Photographers: A Cinematographic Experience Through the Lenses of Omani and French Photographers” in collaboration with the French Embassy. On May 11, 2023, the National Museum inaugurated the exhibition and activities for “Oman Day” titled “Journey to the Land of Frankincense” at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon, France.
Furthermore, the National Museum is involved in several bilateral agreements with the Louvre Museum in Paris since 2017. Up to the present date, the National Museum hosted the exhibition “Paradise Gardens: The Language of Flowers in Iznik Ceramics” as the first external exhibition organised by the Louvre Abu Dhabi (2021).
This collaboration also extends to the field of training and professional development in the museum industry.
