Muscat: Sohar Aluminium (SA) concluded its participation in the recently held 25th edition of Arab International Aluminium Conference and Exhibition (ARABAL 2023), organised in Riyadh. ARABAL is the Middle East’s premier trade event for the aluminium industry, and this year’s edition was titled “Aluminium: The Future, from Mine to Space” showcasing the limitless applications and possibilities for Aluminium.
The 3-day event, hosted by Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden), marked a unique conference attended by primary aluminium manufacturers in the region as well as attracting those interested in the Middle East aluminium industry. ARABAL 2023 featured different workshops, thought-provoking presentations, panel discussions, and keynote speeches from industry pioneers, exploring the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the aluminium sector such as achieving industry decarbonisation and net-zero, promoting market dynamics, sustainability practices, and the impact of technological advancements.
SA’s participation in ARABAL 2023 was across various activities during the 3-day conference which includes its booth at the exhibition. Kicking off the first day, the CEO of SA, Engr Said Al Masoudi, shared his views on the current challenges and future opportunities of aluminium industry during the Arab CEO Smelters Panel.
In a later session, SA’s Chief Operating Officer, Agnello Borim, touched on the various initiatives that are increasing the company’s recycling efforts that serve in meeting decarbonisation targets. Furthermore, Lead Process Engineer at SA, Roa Al Shizawi, shed light on the role of female talents in delivering the ambitious growth vision of the GCC aluminium industry during a session designated to highlight women’s valuable contributions in this industry.
It is worth noting that the first edition of ARABAL was held in 1983 in Kuwait with the aim of bringing together the leading players in the Middle East Aluminium industry to strengthen ties and discuss issues and to provide an overview of the aluminium industry. Over the past 40 years, it has become an event of international repute, bringing together leaders from the aluminium industry across the world to network and conduct business.
