Beijing: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, took part in the Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, held in Chongqing, China.
The event is themed “Together for Innovation, Development for All”.
Oman’s delegation to the conference was headed by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
Moreover, the conference reviewed areas of cooperation in the fields of science, technology, innovation, industrial development, research and big data, among other areas. It also touched on means of tackling global challenges.
Al Mahrouqi toured the exhibition of science and technology exchange, which exhibits several scientific and scholarly projects and initiatives.
The Minister also took part in round-table meetings held on the sidelines of the conference. Those meetings dealt with topics related to research and innovation.
Furthermore, on the sidelines of this participation, the governments of Oman and China held a talks session dealing with cooperation in the fields of science and technology.
Oman was represented during this session by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
Al Mahrouqi underscored the historical and cultural relations between Oman and China. She also highlighted Oman’s priorities in various science and research fields as per Oman Vision 2040.
A letter of Intent (LOI) was signed during the talks session in the field of science and technology.
The LOI was signed by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and Yin Hejun, Chinese Minister of Science and Technology.
The signing of the LOI aims to enhance cooperation in transferring sciences, knowledge and technology between the two countries, as well as exchanging best practices, researchers and innovators.
