NIZWA: Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is rich in natural, historic and cultural landmarks, which makes it an ideal tourism destination for visitors from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman during the winter season.
Winter tourism starts from October and continues till the end of April.
The Heritage and Tourism Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, in cooperation with the concerned government departments and private sector entities, have intensified their tourism promotion efforts and campaigns during this period.
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate enjoys a diverse form of tourism combining history and nature, where the guesthouses in the wilayats of the governorate make tourists spend an exceptional time and get acquainted with the Omani civilisation and heritage.
Ali bin Said Al Adawi, Director of Heritage and Tourism Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said that the department in cooperation with its partners in the tourism sector continues its efforts for the success of winter tourism season in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
He said that Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is one of the key tourism destinations in the Sultanate of Oman, thanks to the historic and cultural landmarks and heritage sites, which makes it a favoured destination for tourists.
There are many ancient forts and castles in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate such as Nizwa Fort, which is one of the oldest forts in the Sultanate of Oman. Apart from Bahla fort, Jibreen Fort and Samail Fort, there are also various aflajs and old souqs, he said.
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is also famous for its mountains including Jabal Shams and Al Jabal Al Akhdar which are known for their favoured climate and rare trees, he said, adding that the governorate is also famous for a number of wadis such as Wadi Tanuf, Wadi Fanja, Wadi Al Ma’adin and Wadi Halfin among others.
He also reaffirmed that the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is witnessing a big footfall of tourists this winter season, thanks to the efforts accorded for tapping the tourism potentials of the governorate.
