MUMBAI: Glenn Maxwell played probably one of the greatest ODI knocks as he slammed an unbelievable 201 in 128 balls, which was studded with 21 boundaries and ten maximums as Australia rallied from seven down for 91 to beat Afghanistan by three wickets with 19 balls remaining at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in Mumbai on Tuesday. Maxwell and skipper Pat Cummins ensured the win as they finished the chase with 293/7.
In the first innings, a splendid century for Ibrahim Zadran (129*), sturdy knocks from the middle-order batters, and a hefty charge by the lower-order helped Afghanistan get to their highest Cricket World Cup score of 291/5.
Giving Maxwell company till the end was skipper Pat Cummins with a sedate 12 as the pair shared a 202-run partnership for the eighth wicket, the highest in the ODIs.
Maxwell completed the unbelievable victory with a six to reach his double century off Mujeeb Ur Rahman. His 201 is the highest individual score for the ODIs by an Australian surpassing Shane Watson’s 185.
