Bicycle riders show solidarity with people affected by cancer

Muscat: As part of efforts to support cancer patients and raise awareness about cancer, the Oman Cancer Association (OCA), in cooperation with the Omani Cycling Association, organised a charity bicycle ride under the slogan “Every Step Counts” on Saturday morning.

Riders of all ages and backgrounds, from professionals to beginners, participated in the ride, carrying the torch of hope and solidarity with those affected by cancer.

The ride started in front of the Oman Cancer Association headquarters in Ghubrah North and continued for 30 kilometres until Al Mouj Muscat roundabout in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and positivity.

Dr. Wahid Al Kharusi, President of the Oman Cancer Association, stated that the ride aims to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and early treatment of cancer and to enhance the spirit of solidarity and support for cancer patients and their families.

He also pointed out that the association works hard to provide the necessary care and support for people with cancer and improve their quality of life, as cancer patients and those with brave stories were honoured during the march and several draws were held for participants, where some participants gave inspiring words about their personal experiences with the disease and how their lives were affected and they faced challenges with determination.

Tokens of appreciation were distributed to the participants and certificates of appreciation were presented to the associations and institutions that contributed to organizing the ride.

Khalifa Al Jabri, Vice President of the Omani Cycling Association, expressed his pride in participating in this charitable event, which brings together various members of the community to support an important cause.

He stressed that the bicycle is an effective means of awareness and solidarity and that this ride reflects the noble human values of the Omani people.

The youth training centre in North Al Batinah participated in the ride, the youth team, the National champion for under-23, Muhammad Al-Wahaibi, the captain of the cycling team, Abdul Rahman Al-Yaqoubi, and the national team coaches, as a demonstration and an invitation for young people to participate.

This initiative comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to combat cancer in the Sultanate of Oman and provide the necessary support to cancer patients.

The charitable bicycle ride is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and early treatment and to enhance the positive spirit and solidarity in community.

Mona Al-Awfi, from the Oman Cancer Association, stressed the continuation of the efforts made by the Oman Cancer Associationand the Omani Cycling Associationin organizing similar events with the aim of spreading awareness about cancer and providing support to patients and their families.

 She welcomed the participation of volunteers from all sectors of society to support this group, and the Omani community looks forward to it. We call for more such initiatives that enhance awareness and give hope to people with cancer to achieve recovery and overcome the challenges they face.

Such initiatives aim to enhance public awareness about cancer and encourage people to take preventive measures, including early detection and adopting healthy lifestyles.

This march also reflects the spirit of solidarity and unity in the community, as people from different backgrounds and segments participate in this important charitable event.

The OCA and the Omani Cycling Association are working to promote awareness among cancer patients in Oman and to achieve a positive change in the lives of people affected by the disease.

It is hoped that these efforts will continue and that institutions and society will commit to supporting such initiatives to achieve a positive impact in our society.
