Muscat: Oxy Oman recently announced the signing of an exclusive sponsorship agreement with the Oman Camel Racing Federation, continuing its support for the sport of camel racing in the Sultanate. The agreement calls for Oxy Oman to sponsor three camel races within the 2023/2024 racing season, which is the 10th that the company has sponsored.
The sponsorship agreement signing ceremony was held at the Intercity Hotel Muscat, under the auspices of H.E. Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary for Sports and Youth at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, & Youth. Steven Lauver, President & General Manager at Oxy Oman, and Sheikh Said bin Saud al Ghufili, Chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Federation, were signatories for their respective organizations.
Oxy Oman will award each of the 15 winners of the three sponsored races with vehicle prizes. Awards will go to the five winners of each race taking place in Haima, Al Wusta Governorate; Adam, Al Dhakhiliyah Governorate; and Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate, with a total of 15 winners in all the races and prizes worth over 100,00 Omani rials. Additionally, it is expected that the race events generally support the camel racing industry with over 2000 beneficiaries in local communities, including trainers, camel owners, hotels, small and medium enterprises, workers in livestock and veterinary clinics, and shops in the areas.
“Oxy Oman is committed to supporting projects that directly impact communities located within our concession areas, and to enhance social development through long-term projects in the region. We are proud to continue our support of camel racing in the Sultanate, as it is a cherished historic heritage and cultural sport, with strong connections to local businesses and communities,” said Mr. Lauver.
Oxy Oman has supported 33 camel races during the last nine years. In addition, the company has supported the renovation of the Haima Camel Race track, which is considered the main camel race track serving the Wilayats of Al Wusta Governorate.
