Muscat: In partnership with bp Oman, Oman Paralympic Committee concluded the third level of the National Paralympic Coaching Course at the Amal Club in Muscat. The course trained 19 coaches, seven of which are Oman Sail coaches, to obtain a nationally accredited certificate in the field of para-sports. The coaching course is delivered as part of the SailFree programme, implemented in partnership with Oman Sail.
The coaches were trained in the advanced level to develop their theoretical and practical knowledge in para-sports, as well as sports training skills for athletes over the course of 90 hours spread across three levels. This level focused on planning training programmes, leadership and coaching for people with disabilities, support equipment, sports performance tracking models and available technologies as well as how to prepare people with disabilities for championships.
Ibrahim Al Hinai, Social Investment Manager at bp Oman, Kuwait and Qatar, commented: “This course reflects our sustainability aim of improving people’s lives by enhancing the health and wellbeing of our local community by training our local capabilities. We hope that through this course we can enhance the coaches’ performance as well as empower Oman Paralympic Committee’s capabilities in utilising local sports talents across different paralympic sports.”
Dr. Mansoor Al Tauqi, President of the Oman Paralympic Committee, further added: “The course has achieved our main goals by qualifying another batch of Omani trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead sports teams. This is an important strategic step for our committee as it promotes the utilisation of sports as a form of rehabilitation for people with disabilities and develops our athletes across different governorates.”
Dr. Khamis Al Jabri, CEO of Oman Sail, commented: “We are happy with our partnership with Oman Paralympic Committee and bp Oman to equip our local trainers, and this will no doubt contribute towards improving the standards of the services available for athletes with disabilities. This will also work towards enhancing our coaches’ abilities in training people with disabilities in our sailing schools involved in the SailFree programme.”
