Muttrah Fort visiting hours extended

Muscat: Visitors of Muttrah Fort can now enjoy two more hours at the fort, as the Ministry of Tourism has announced an extension of visiting hours.

In a statement online, the ministry announced the new visiting times for the fort: From Saturday to Thursday: From 9:00 am to 6:30 pm; On Friday: From 9:00 am to 11:00 am, then from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

Previously the fort was open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Muttrah's iconic fort reopened to the public on June 5, 2018, which was the first day of Eid Al Fitr, for the first time since undergoing extensive renovations.

Located on top of a rocky, narrow hill, Muttrah Fort currently consists of three circular towers: A huge one sitting on the summit and the remaining smaller two are located one at the first point in the West, and the other, which still houses one of the old cannons, to the north of the fort near the large tower.
