Muscat: A number of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman may witness thunderstorms and rain on Sunday, October 15, 2023,Oman Meteorology said.
The mountainous areas of South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and North Al Sharqiyah Governorates are expected to be affected by the rain.
Oman Meteorology added that rainfall may range between 15-30 mm and cause poor horizontal visibility, downdraft winds, and chances of overflowing valleys.
Oman Meteorology has urged people to move away from low-lying places not to attempt to swim in valleys, keep an eye on children and ensure they stay away from approaching or crossing valleys for public safety.
Low Pressure Area likely to develop
"The latest weather maps and numerical forecasts indicate that there are preliminary indicators of the formation of a low pressure area in the southeastern Arabian Sea after the middle of this week. Specialists at the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards are monitoring the chances of a tropical condition forming in the Arabian Sea at the end of this week, " Oman Meteorology said in a statement.
