Nizwa: The governorate of Al Dakhiliyah has paid great attention to establishing parks and gardens, giving cosmetic touches to a number of wilayats, and developing and maintaining existing parks to attract families for enjoyment, and holding various social and cultural events, said Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah . The government is also continuing to implement more projects to keep pace with the rising population.
In an interview to the Oman News Agency, the governor said: “We opened the Manah Public Park in January of last year, and it became a destination for the people of this governorate. We are issuing a tender for the Nizwa Park, in addition to that there are ready designs for the Green Mountain Park and the Al Hamra State Park, and the development phase has begun.
"The first of the Nizwa State Front Project is 1,500 metres long and there is an Interior Boulevard project, the first phase of it will begin next year. It is a health, recreational and aesthetic project. We opened Khamila Park in the State of Bahla, and the components of Adam Park were strengthened during the last period.”
Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has 35 parks and gardens in its nine wilayats, with a total area exceeding 1,353,807 square metres. Seven parks and gardens are in the Wilayat of Nizwa, 4 in the Wilayat of Bahla, 5 in the Wilayat of Adam, 3 in the Wilayat of Samail, 5 gardens and parks in the Wilayat of Manah, 3 in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, and 5 in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, 2 in Izki, and one in Bidbid wilayat.
Adam Public Park, which was opened in March of this year, is considered one of the largest parks in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. It is built on an area of 250,000 square metres. In terms of area, it is followed by Khamila Public Park in the Wilayat of Bahla, with an area of 150,000 square metres, and the smallest is the Souq Roundabout Park in the Wilayat of Manah. Its area is 541 square metres.
Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri praised the efforts of the private sector in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah to promote development, as it financed a number of gardens and parks projects, such as the establishment of Khamila Public Park in the Wilayat of Bahla, the establishment of which was financed by the Petroleum Development Oman.
He explained that until the end of the current five--year development plan in 2025, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate will witness the launch of several projects, including four large projects in the field of entertainment and parks at a cost exceeding OMR6 million, including Al Dakhiliyah Boulevard (first phase), which has a total cost of OMR5.5 million and Nizwa Park at a cost of about OMR3 million, and the entrance to Nizwa State at a cost of OMR1.7 million, and work is currently underway to implement its first phase, and Al Jabal Al Akhdar Park at an amount of OMR500,000.
He added that several projects have been approved for implementation in 2024, including the work of an irrigation system to plant trees at the entrance to the wilayat of Manah, the development and rehabilitation of the public park in the Maamoura area in the wilayat of Bahla, the establishment of a park in the Al-Sih Al-Ahmar scheme, the rehabilitation and development of Al-Aqil Park in the state of Izki, and the development of Al-Haditha Park in the wilayats of Bahla. Adam, and the development of Hassas Park in the wilayat of Samail.
Regarding the efforts made to develop the service sectors in the governorate, the Governor said that the implementation of a plan related to paving internal roads in the governorate’s states has begun, and at the end of 2025, the paving of about 600 kilometres of those roads will be completed.
"We focus on areas that were not previously covered by road service, including the implementation of the first and second packages of roads in the state of Bahla, with a length of about 80 km, and in the state of Al Hamra, the first and second packages with a length of 66 km are currently being implemented. We also have a plan to develop commercial areas and establish markets. There is a vision for establishing a bus station in the Farq area in the state of Nizwa, which has been put forward to the private sector and we are waiting for bids to be submitted. There is an ambitious plan to develop road services to develop economic activity and attract investors. In this aspect, we have completed roads in the Al-Khamila plan in the state of Bahla, and we are currently working in Adam also working on the industrial plan in Birkat Al Mouz."
He added, "The governorate is also working on packages of internal roads that focus on residential plans to keep pace with the accelerating movement in construction. Paving of 150 kilometres of internal roads has been monitored in the plans, and advisory studies have been completed for the next two years, 2024/ 2025. At the beginning of next year, the implementation process will begin by offering about 75 kilometres as a first package of roads related to the plans.
