Muscat: More than 47,000 certificates of origin have been issued for local products by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIp).
The number of certificates of origin for local products exported to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the Arab countries, the EFTA countries, and the Republic of Singapore during the first half of this year reached 47,736 certificates, according to statistics issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. The Ministry's Industrial Operations Department explained that the certificates of local products exported to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries during the first half of this year amounted to 40,177 certificates, in addition to 7,381 certificates of origin for local products for Arab countries, 83 certificates for EFTA countries, and 95 certificates for Singapore.
The Ministry stated that certificates of origin include agricultural, animal, industrial, and natural resources certificates. Certificates of origin for local products exported to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are provided through the “Invest Easy” electronic portal to facilitate services for investors, factories and Omani companies to export their products, in addition to facilitating and saving effort and time for investors. The Ministry called on owners of national establishments, including Omani entrepreneurs, owners of small and medium enterprises, Omani and non-Omani investors, craftsmen, and productive families, to benefit from the economic agreements and free trade agreements concluded between the Sultanate of Oman and the countries with which it concludes in the field of export and import, to obtain preferential treatments.
It should be noted that the certificate of origin, in general, is a name from which some types of certificates have branched, as there are different types of Gulf certificates of origin, which are certificates granted to products that have the status of an Omani product “of origin” to prove their origin and grant exporters advantages and preferential treatments, represented by the exemption of exports, national products and services from customs duties in those countries of origin in accordance with the agreements concluded with countries in this regard.
