MUSCAT: Former champions Seeb consolidated their position at the top in the 2023-24 Omantel League with an impressive 3-0 win over bottom-placed Ibri.
Seeb’s opening round match against Ibri was postponed due to the former’s Asian Champions League preliminary round commitments. On Sunday, the rescheduled match was played and Seeb’s victory extended their lead on top. They now lead by four points from second placed Oman Club who have 12 points.
Two-time champions Seeb are sitting pretty with 16 from six games while Ibri remain stuck at the bottom.
Seeb have won five of the six matches and played out a draw under their new Brazilian coach Jorvan Viera.
Seeb’s Jackson Bisan opened the account when he nodded in a strong header off a cross from Omar Al Fazari in the 34th minute. Al Fazari also ensured his name on the scorer’s list with a powerful volley in the 49th minute. Oman international Mohsin Al Ghassani rounded off the impressive win with a goal in the dying minutes of the match.
Only defending champions Al Nahda, who were in action in the AFC Cup on Monday and Sur have played five matches while the remaining ten teams have all played their six games so far. The seventh round of the Omantel League will resume on October 10.
