Muscat: With the participation of camel owners from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Camel Racing Federation will organise 12 races for 2023/2024 season.
The Oman Camel Racing Federation revealed the schedule for camel racing for the 2023/2024 season, which will start on September 12, 2023 with the participation of camel owners from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Sheikh Said bin Saud Al Ghufaili, President of the Omani Camel Racing Federation, said during the press conference held today that based on the meeting that the Federation held with camel owners and camel racers last month to consider their opinions and proposals regarding camel racing, it was agreed to hold the national camel races for this season in the Royal Camel Race in the Wilayat of Barka in the South Al Batinah Governorate and Al-Bashaer Square in the Wilayat of Adam in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah at the same time in order to provide everyone with the opportunity to participate in these two races.
Al Ghufaili added that the federation approved the holding of 12 various races, 6 of which were in the Royal Haggana Square and 6 in Al-Bashaer Square. Participation is open to everyone from various wilayats of the Sultanate, and each race includes 95 races for different categories of camels.
Competitions for the first race will begin from the 12th to the 14th of this month, in addition to other races for Al-Mazayna, Al-Mahallab, Al-Ardha, Al-Mufatim, and the annual Al-Ittihad Festival.
The President of the Oman Camel Racing Federation stated that the prizes offered for each race increased over previous years, and the races and days of racing increased at each station.
Al Ghufaili pointed out that the Federation will organise 6 other races in cooperation with the companies “Occidental Oman” and “Shell” in the concession areas in the wilayats of Adam, Ibri and Haima as part of the community partnership in this aspect.
