Muscat: Bangladesh Social Club, an association of Oman’s largest expat community, is expanding its reach with the opening of new wings.
Recently, they got an approval to open two more wings, Greater Noakhali Wing and Greater Comilla Wing.
Bangladesh Social Club, the association representing the Bangladeshi community, started its journey in Oman in 1995.
To perform the socio-cultural activities in Oman, former Ambassador Major General Amin Ahmed along with PSC, Bir Bikram and, Al Numan inaugurated the club during his tenure.
Apart from the socio-cultural activities, the Club is engaged in philanthropic activities like blood donation and helping the community in distress.
The Ministry of Social Development affairs has recognised their contributions towards the community and honoured the Club Chairman Sirajul Hoque for his service recently.
In the past, the Bangladesh Social Club was concentrating on its activities in Muscat only, but in 2017, a new branch was opened in Salalah.
Following the request from the community, the social club is concentrating on opening new wings, added Sirajul Hoque.
He added that during his tenure as chairman of the club, he obtained the approval for opening the Salalah branch, Greater Noakhali Wing, Greater Comilla Wing and Women’s Wing from the Ministry of Social Development Oman.
He expressed his gratitude to the Oman government for extending its support to the club’s expansion plan.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Bangladesh Embassy Muscat for extending support and valuable guidance for the betterment of the community.
For the smooth functioning, executive committee members of the club work in perfect harmony.
To build awareness among the community members and to follow the rules and regulations and the directives of the Ministry of Social Development of Sultanate of Oman, Bangladesh Social Club organises different events and activities.
Moreover to combat money laundering and to encourage expatriates to send their money to the home country through proper channels, Bangladesh Embassy Muscat and Bangladesh Social Club in association with Gulf Overseas Exchange recently organised seminars in different parts of Oman.
‘Say No to Hundi’ event was also organised in association with the Bangladesh Embassy Muscat, National Bank of Oman (NBO) and Gulf Overseas Exchange, Sirajul Hoque added.
The celebration of Oman National Day, Victory Day of Bangladesh, Boishaki Mela (first day of Bangla new year), Gold Cup Football Tournament and T10 Cricket Tournament are the major annual events organised by the club.
Prominent Bangladeshi artists perform in various events in the presence of thousands of Bangladeshi expatriates.
On a call from the Blood Bank of Oman, Bangladesh Social Club is going to organise a Blood Donation camp in the mid-September this year.
Opening of a few more wings like Greater Chattogram Wing, Sports Wing & Youth Wing is under active consideration of the Bangladesh Social Club, added Hoque.
