Muscat: Electricity distributors in the Sultanate have been asked to activate their contingency plans, in light of the developments of the Mekunu cyclone, by Oman's Authority for Electricity Regulation.
A statement issued by the Authority for Electricity Regulation said: "Due to the server weather expected by the tropical storm 'Mekunu', the authority contacted all desalination plants, transmission and distribution licensees to activate the emergency plans and take all precautionary measures to ensure the continuity and safe operation of their facilities and safeguard the security of electricity supply and water production."
The authority has reaffirmed, "The electricity sector is well prepared to address any emergency caused by the tropical storm and all efforts will be made to restore supplies to affected areas."
"The authority remains confident in sector companies' ability to deal with emergency situations through the emergency plans that have been prepared and tested," the statement added.
