Muscat: The need for a centralised venue for festivals in the nation’s capital Muscat has long been felt with the Muscat Municipality Chairman, Ahmed Mohammed Al Hamidi, admitting earlier this year that “it is time to have a permanent venue to hold festivals in future.”
Muscat Municipality has recently launched a tender regarding consulting services for the design of the single-venue festival ground in Muscat Governorate. The Municipality has invited all companies classified at the first class level and registered with the Tender Board to bid for it.
The companies are expected to offer modern designs and ideas, according to international specifications, which keep pace with the organisation of events, and are consistent with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040 in the development of governorates and sustainable cities.
The single-festival venue aims to gather all the elements of events and activities at one integrated site that has passages, walkways, entrances and exits, lighting, facilities, theatres, exhibitions, restaurants, restrooms, and squares designated for entertainment, promotion and participations.
The tender will also include creating designs for specialised event sites, arena events, performance sites, games, and green neighbourhoods for other diverse programmes and activities.
The festival venue is expected to attract events that can be organised throughout the year and in different seasons, and to provide the site with various important needs, services, and facilities that serve visitors and tourists.
Muscat Municipality is keen to pay attention to the aspirations of the community in the entertainment industry in the Governorate of Muscat. It is keen to hold events and activities with diverse content and renewable ideas in various sports, cultural, entertainment, arts, creative and competitive fields, as well as to take care of the participation of youth and community groups through events and festivals.
The tender announcement read: "Muscat Municipality invites the companies specialised in the tender works and registered with the Tender Board to participate and obtain the conditions and specifications from the website via the link (http://etendering.tenderboard.gov.om/)."
Besides the consulting services for the design of the festival grounds, Muscat Municipality issued other tenders, which are as follows:
1: Transporting neglected vehicles.
2: Painting of Muscat Municipality vehicles.
3: Supplying polymerisation devices for health affairs.
4: Road maintenance works in Muscat Governorate.
5: Treatment of rainwater catchments in the Qurum region.
