Muscat : The Consumer Protection Authority(CPA) has seized quantities of cigarettes and non-smoking chewing tobacco in a residential area in the Wilayat of Ibri, Al Dhahirah Governorate.
The Markets Regulation and Monitoring Department of the Consumer Protection Department in Al Dhahirah Governorate, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police(ROP) in the governorate, managed to seize quantities of cigarettes and non-smoking chewing tobacco.
The products were seized in possession of two expatriate workers who traded and sold them in a residential area in the Wilayat of Ibri. The campaign has also led to the spotting of banned types of smokeless tobacco – Afdhal, Ban , Techna . These practices are in violation of the Consumer Protection Law in accordance with Resolution No. (256/2015) amended by Resolution No. (206/2023) regarding the prohibition of the circulation of chewed (non-smoked) tobacco in any form and under any name.
Accordingly, the necessary legal measures were taken against the violators, and all seized quantities were confiscated in preparation for their destruction.
Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) affirms that it will spare no effort in following up and monitoring the markets and controlling everything that may harm the health and safety of consumers. It will also seek to eliminate this phenomenon, trace its sources and hotbeds, and take all legal measures against violators.
