Muscat: Rain and thundershowers hit parts of Oman, including Samail, Al Rustaq, and Muscat, over the past 24 hours, according to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).
While the southern part of the Sultanate witnessed rainfall and a hailstorm on Tuesday, Oman’s capital, as well as parts of Dhofar and the Musandam Peninsula were hit by light to strong isolated rains.
Temperatures dropped in parts of Musandam because of cloud formation and rain. Temperatures on Tuesday were 28 degrees Celsius in Saiq and 33 degrees Celsius in Salalah.
The sea was moderate to rough along the coasts of Dhofar and Al Wusta, with waves reaching a maximum of three metres.
PACA advised everyone to follow weather bulletins, watch for flash floods in the wadis and make sure they check the condition of the sea before heading out. PACA also warned the public about poor visibility because of the rising dust.
A growing storm in the Arabian Sea was also expected to bypass Oman, weather experts reported. The National Centre for Early Warning issued a statement online, saying, “The latest satellite images show tropical low-pressure areas with surface speeds of 17 knots located in the south-west of the Arabian Sea near Socotra Island.”
However, authorities said the storm would not have any direct effect on Oman. PACA said, “The storm will move westerly to northwesterly towards the Gulf of Aden in the next 24 hours without any direct effect on Oman.”
Other parts of Oman are expected to have clear skies. “Mainly clear skies over most of the Sultanate [are predicted] with chances of dust blowing over the desert and in Al Buraimi and Al Wusta,” PACA added.
