Muscat: The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) has called on industrial site owners to protect their facilities from industrial fires.
In a statement, the authority said, “As the temperature rises, PACDA would like to remind owners of industrial facilities to comply with protective requirements.”
“There is no doubt that development in all areas of the Sultanate is growing at an accelerated pace. This growth must be accompanied by preventive measures that proceed at the same pace, in order to preserve these gains and protect them from risks,” the statement added.

Industrial establishments
Industrial accidents, according to data released by the authority, have reduced from 2016.
In 2017, there were 54 accidents in industrial establishments, compared with 68 the previous year. “PACDA wants to ensure that preventive requirements are in place to avoid accidents which could lead to serious material losses.
“The authority will be intensifying inspection campaigns to ensure the safety of workers and their attendants, In the interest of public safety and in order to avoid risk, the authority hopes the owners of these establishments and their employees comply with safety requirements,” the statement continued.
“Owners should not construct buildings with unstable materials around the premises, businesses should implement preventive requirements and measures issued by the authority. Hazardous materials should not be stored,” it added. “Periodic maintenance of alarm and fire extinguishing systems should be done. Additionally, an evacuation plan must be put in place for use in case of emergencies.”
