Campaign launched to remove harmful trees in Bidbid

Bidbid: The Department of Agriculture Wealth and Water Resources in the Wilayat of Bidbid in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah carried out an extensive campaign to remove harmful including mesquite trees, in cooperation with a number of government and private institutions.

Engineer Ishaq bin Omar Al-Jabri, Director of the Department of Agriculture Wealth and Water Resources in the Wilayat of Bidbid, said that mesquite and other trees negatively affect growth of seasonal plants. With their surface roots, they  compete for water and nutrients, so it is necessary to remove them, he said.

The presence of open roots on the banks of the valley blocks the flow of water and forces it to change its path towards the farms of citizens.

Al-Jabri added that this campaign is a first stage and will be followed by other upcoming stages. The number of participants among the state’s youth reached approximately 100 people and 7 equipment, and it operated in a number of villages.

It is worth noting that the Department of Agricultural Wealth in the Wilayat of Bidbid seeks to remove harmful trees by carrying out similar campaigns during the next phase.
