Muscat: The State Council and the Shura Council held their second joint session on Monday to discuss reports of the joint committees on items of dispute regarding the draft bills of the Tourism Law and the Public Debt Law in preparation for their submission to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
The session began with a speech by Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council , in which he indicated that the session has been convened under the umbrella of the Council of Oman within the system of joint cooperation and coordination for a unified vision regarding the articles of disagreement between the two councils in preparation of draft laws referred by the government.
He stated that the State Council and the Shura Council had previously discussed the draft bills of the Tourism Law and the Public Debt Law, and agreed on many articles, in addition to some differences in other articles. Therefore, joint committees were formed to include a number of members to sort out the differences between the two councils, and the committees reached agreement on all the articles of disagreement.
The chairman of the joint session added that the agenda includes discussing the reports of the two joint committees on the 'Draft Tourism Law' and the 'Public Debt Law' in accordance with the rules and procedures for holding joint sessions between the State Council and the Shura Council, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 49 of the Council of Oman Law.
The session was attended by Khalid Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of the Shura Council, the Secretary General of the State Council, the Secretary General of the Shura Council and members of the two councils.
