Muscat:Oman Customs foiled several attempts to smuggle marijuana, tobacco and psychotropic substances.
While there was one case where an expat was attempting to smuggle marijuana, officials announced three instances where tobacco was being smuggled and one instance where psychotropic substances were found by the Oman Central Post Customs.
In the first case, Oman Customs said, “Muscat International Airport Customs detained an Asian accused of possessing 2.5 kg of marijuana.”
In another case, officials said, “The Department of Investigation and Risk Assessment raided a site that was used to store and sell banned cigarettes and tobacco derivatives. The accused were arrested and the contraband was seized.”
The Al Wajajah customs foiled an attempt to smuggle chewing tobacco that was found tightly packed inside drums used to store chemicals. Meanwhile, the Customs clearance of Wadi al-Jizi foiled a bid to smuggle counterfeit and forbidden cigarettes.
Officials added, “The Oman Central Post Customs found a postal package containing large amounts of psychotropic tablets (tramadol).”
