Health, physical education must for Class IX to XII CBSE students

Muscat: Students from classes IX to XII, studying under Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will now have to attend mandatory health and physical education classes every day.
Moreover, board exams will be conducted for both subjects, which X and XII students will need to clear. However, the marks from these subjects will not be added to the marks card.
The CBSE announced that it had formulated new rules which required health and public education classes to be conducted daily. The board has prepared a 150 page manual, explaining what how the classes should be conducted.
The move was being mooted for some time as there were concerns about increasing numbers of obese and overweight children. CBSE schools used to have work experience and health education in senior class. These have now been replaced with the new sports (physical education) and health classes.
Officials made it clear that there will only be exams for students of X and XII classes and not the others. It was also disclosed that schools had the liberty to choose the physical or sports activities of their choice for these classes, but it needs to be based on the board’s manual.
