UN: Yoga event led by India PM Modi enters Guinness Book

New York:   Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Yoga celebration at the UN headquarters created a Guinness World Record for the participation of people of most nationalities. PM Modi, who was in New York on the first leg of his maiden state visit to the US at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, led a historic event at the UN Headquarters to commemorate the 9th International Day of Yoga, Attended by top UN officials, diplomats and prominent personalities.

The Yoga celebration led by Prime Minister Modi at the UN headquarters created the Guinness World Record for the participation of people of most nationalities, officials said.

Prime Minister Modi met Gary E. Dickerson, President and CEO of Applied Materials on May 23, 2023 in Washington DC.

He invited Applied Materials to contribute to strengthening the semiconductor ecosystem in India. Prime Minister also invited Applied Materials for development of process technology and advanced packaging capabilities in India.

Prime Minister and Dickerson discussed potential of Applied Materials' collaboration with academic institutions in India to create skilled workforce.

PM Modi also met H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., CEO of General Electric. The Prime Minister appreciated GE for its long-term commitment to manufacturing in India. Prime Minister and Culp, Jr. discussed GE's greater technology collaboration to promote manufacturing in India.

Prime Minister invited GE to play greater role in aviation and renewable energy sector in India.

In the upcoming US State Dinner for PM Modi scheduled for Thursday, the menu would feature millet dishes in addition to gourmet specialities created in accordance with Prime Minister Modi's culinary tastes, reported Hindustan Times.

Thursday night, “guest will walk across the South Lawn into a pavilion draped in rich greens with saffron-coloured flowers at every table - the colours of the Indian flag,” US First Lady Jill Biden said.

First course: Marinated Millet and Grilled Corn Kernel Salad with a refreshing Compressed Watermelon and Tangy Avocado Sauce.

Main course: Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms and Creamy Saffron-infused Risotto, complemented by Sumac-roasted Sea Bass with a delectable Lemon-Dill Yogurt Sauce.

Accompaniments: Crisped Millet Cakes and Summer Squashes, adding a delightful touch to the culinary experience.

Guest Chef Nina Curtis, White House executive chef CrisComerford, and White House executive pastry chef Susie Morrison have curated the menu that showcases the best of both American and Indian cuisine.

"We have been working on this menu for the State Dinner for a few months. The First Lady and I are thrilled, and I believe we have successfully fulfilled our mission," Curtis said. She added they are very excited that India is leading efforts to celebrate the international year of Millet and thus have incorporated marinated millets into the menu, reported Hindustan Times.

"The theme, the inspiration of State Dinner (being hosted at the White House for PM Modi) was India's national bird peacock," said White House social secretary Carlos Elizondo.
