Muscat: Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their first win of the season, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 46 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Mumbai batted first and set a mammoth target of 214, which Bangalore wasn't able to chase. But things didn't start well for the eventual victors as they lost two wickets to pacer Umesh Yadav on the first two balls of the match.
However, Mumbai scripted a remarkable comeback, thanks to West Indian opener Evan Lewis who slammed 65 out of 42 balls and captain Rohit Sharma, who finally found his form this season and scored 94 off 52. The latter was named man of the match.
RCB spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar were especially expensive, while Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Siraj fared relatively better.
Bangalore responded positively to begin with as runs came in a hurry for skipper Virat Kohli and South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock. Kohli remained not out, scoring 92 off 62 balls, while de Kock fell to Kiwi seamer Mitchell McClenagan at 19.
The Royal Challengers then suffered a middle order collapse with the only hope coming from Mandeep Singh who, too, fell after scoring 16 runs.
Left arm spinner Krunal Pandya was the pick of the Mumbai bowlers, finishing with figures of three for 28 in his four overs. Pacers Bumrah and McClenagan also had a good day out, picking up two wickets each.
