Two people fined OMR2,000 on charges of fraud in Oman

Muscat: Two people have been fined OMR 2,000 for fraud and lack of transparency, according to the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).

The Misdemeanour Department at the preliminary court in the Wilayat of Ibri issued a judgement condemning two defendants for breaching the Consumer Protection Law. The suspects were both fined OMR 2,000.

The incident occurred when a consumer paid a deposit of OMR100 for a vehicle that was advertised by an automobile company. However, once all the procedures were completed, the vehicle was sold to another consumer.

When the consumer approached the branch manager to discuss the matter, he was told that the vehicle had already been sold to another consumer and there was another vehicle he could buy, but the consumer did not want to do so.

It was then that he approached the PACP and filed a complaint. After that, the manager was called to review the case.

Following that, the suspects was referred to the competent court which issued a fine of OMR 2,000, and in case of appeal the suspects would have to pay a security guarantee of OMR300.

Apart from that, the accused also had to pay the plaintiff a civil right amount of OMR500, for the physical and mental damage he suffered.
