Muscat: The Royal Opera House Muscat is launching its blood donation campaign for 2023 under the slogan ‘Your act of kindness brings colour to people’s lives! Give Blood, Give Life’. The campaign, running in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Blood Bank Services will take place on Tuesday 14 June to coincide with World Blood Donation Day. Donors will be welcomed through the main entrance of the Royal Opera House Muscat to take their seats in the donation clinic set up in the South Porch from 9am on Tuesday until 6pm the same day.
The campaign by the opera house hopes to attract record numbers of donors by appealing to everyone who attends shows but also to people who may not otherwise have visited. The opera house is a wonderful location to use as a venue for community-based initiatives, offering a beautiful space which promotes access to musical arts for everyone.
Blood donations play a vital role in saving lives each day, with donations supporting a range of treatments from helping accident victims or patients with blood cancers to helping mothers and new-born babies during childbirth. Any healthy person between the age of 18 and 65 can join the campaign to give blood.
If donors are worried about what to expect, rest assured that each person will be carefully guided through the process. Qualified practitioners will carry out health checks before you are committed to donating. The actual process of giving blood takes approximately five to ten minutes to complete and will be carried out in privacy behind temporary screens, on comfortable reclining seats. Once 475ml (just under a pint) of blood has been collected, a sterile dressing will be applied. The experience is designed to minimise all your concerns, so that you feel comfortable at every stage.
