Muscat: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the new Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Shinas was inaugurated by Oman's Minister of Transport and Communications Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi on Friday.

The Friday prayers were led by Imam Khalid bin Said bin Amer Al Yahyai, the imam of the Sultan Mosque Qaboos Shinas. He delivered the sermon and referred to the importance of prayer and its connection to piety, according to a statement from the state news agency.

The mosque includes a main prayer hall that can accommodate 2,592 worshippers. It also contains other facilities like a public library.

The prayer hall is decorated with Islamic inscriptions and Quranic verses. It is capped by a dome that is 35.6 metres long and has a diameter of 24.561 metres.
