Donkey work just got easier in Pakistan

Donkeys in Pakistan have been given soft harnesses and sunhats to ease their burdens.

The initiative has been taken by the Karachi-based non-profit orgnaisation, Ayesha Chundrigarh Foundation (ACF), which distributed over 60 customised harnesses to be strapped around donkeys. The beasts of burden are often used to carry heavy construction site material

“We distributed a few humane donkey harnesses that we have created, a first in Pakistan, to donkey owners in Rawalpindi as well as in Karachi who are now part of our donkey-owner membership and empowerment programme,” said Ayesha, owner of ACF while talking exclusively to Times of Oman.

“Along with the soft and sturdy harness pieces, we also give the owners free hats to help them avoid the sun as well.”

The owner added: “The humane harness and brick kiln harness programmes are underway as ACF makes its way to help the neglected human communities in society alongside the working and stray animals of Pakistan.”

The organisation rescues abandoned and/or abused stray animals and provides them with food, shelter, free medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The foundation has now opened the doors to its new and improved animal shelter in the city after moving base four times in the last three and a half years. The shelter currently houses over 240 animals, ranging from cats and dogs to donkeys.
